Southampton

Southampton, once known as Hamwich is a large port city in Hampshire, England. It has been a trading port since the Middle Ages but fell into slow decline following competition from places such as London. However, the arrival of a dedicated railway later led to more rapid expansion of the city's docks. Southampton is still a major container port and also the largest settlement in Hampshire. It is probably where the name of the county comes from.
